One fifth of the Atlantic Forest lost

Argentina has lost about one fifth of its Atlantic Forest. Loss of forest means decrease in habitat but also a loss of carbon sequestration, leading to more carbon in the atmosphere.

This article on ARS Technica states that this special area is home to "a surprising diversity of life forms, with 7 percent of the planet’s plant species and 5 percent of vertebrate species living here."
