New species of frog named after J.R.R. Tolkien

The Río Negro Stream frog, (Hyloscirtus tolkieni) has been discovered and named after J.R.R. Tolkien- author of the Lord of the Rings. This amphibian lives in streams in the Ecuadorian Andes. A large portion of its habitat lies in the Negro-Sopladora National Park which is a protected area.
