
According to a study conducted by UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH), nature reserves, Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), and other protected habitats may also have a declining biodiversity. The researchers found that while protected areas had a higher species richness, they were losing insect and spider species at the same rate as unprotected habitat.
