
Shawnee National Park closed 'Snake Road' to park goers so that reptiles and amphibians could move safely from summer to winter habitats in September and October of 2022. There's a record number of snakes (23 species) in the park which is rare for this area of the U.S. Forest Service biologist Mark Vukovich says that they want people to care enough about the animals that they'll want to protect them, and "know their actions make a difference".
